My lab is interested in the role of mitochondria and cell metabolism in cell differentiation and in particular, in the maturation of cardiac myocytes. We are interested in identifying key elements in mitochondrial biogenesis and in substrate metabolism that can be targeted to alter the course of cell proliferation or differentiation. We are also developing new methods to assess energetics and metabolic fluxes in live cells at different stages of development using high-resolution multi-nuclear magnetic resonance.
