Our lab is focused on understanding the dynamic resilience of heart tissue. When the heart is stressed, cells in the heart attempt to remodel the tissue and compensate for this stress to maintain cardiac output. However, various factors can impair the ability for cardiac cells to remodel the heart, leading to reduced cardiac output and progressing into heart failure. We aim to better understand how cardiac cells respond to stress in compensatory remodeling and pathogenic settings. The end goal is to find therapeutic strategies that can improve cardiac cell resilience to stress.
