We have announced the appointment of Professor Charles (Chuck) Murry as the new Director of ISCRM. Murry is the successor to ISCRM’s Founding Director and eminent pharmacologist, Professor Randall T. Moon.
Dr. Murry is the Woods Professor of Pathology, Bioengineering and Medicine/Cardiology at the University of Washington and Co-Director for the UW Center for Cardiovascular Biology.
He also serves as director of the UW’s Heart Regeneration Program, with the goal of achieving stem cell-based heart regeneration in patients. Dr. Murry’s years of outstanding research have led to extremely promising new developments and successes using stem cells to regenerate cardiac muscle.
As ISCRM interim director for the last two years, Dr. Murry already has been instrumental in energizing the institute’s research programs and leading fundraising efforts with the state legislature and philanthropic community. His considerable experience and leadership will serve ISCRM well, as he and his colleagues work to leverage research to develop therapies, by using an integrative approach to study stem cells in health and disease.
“It is a great honor to follow Randy Moon as Director of ISCRM. In the coming years we will work to build a pipeline that turns fundamental discoveries in stem cell biology into therapies for today’s patients. Our goal is to make Seattle a destination for regenerative medicine,” said Dr. Murry.
Dr. Murry received his MD and PhD from Duke University. He has been at the University of Washington since he began his residency in the Department of Pathology in 1989. He lives in Seattle with his wife of 31 years, Rene Murry. They have two daughters and two new puppies.
