Current human kidney organoid models, derived from pluripotent stem cells, face significant limitations. They remain structurally immature, functionally incomplete, and often highly variable between batches, lacking the vascularization and specialized architecture necessary for true glomerular filtration. Support from the ISCRM Fellows Program will allow Ramila Gulieva to help address these challenges through precise manipulation of both the physical/mechanical and biochemical microenvironment to promote maturation, consistency, and functionality.
